All of MONPURE's scalp serum, protein shampoo, hair density conditioner and other products are made from sustainable ingredients

We know the word ‘sustainable’ gets thrown around a lot at the moment, to the point where it might raise a few eyebrows. Rather than just pay lip service, MONPURE are all about caring for our beautiful planet as much as we do your scalp and hair, it’s important to us that we stay true to our sustainable ethos at every step of this journey.

With the digital world moving at lightning speed; there has been an ever-increasing demand for the next shiny new thing to shout about on social media. As a consequence, companies are obliged to constantly churn out ‘newness’ at pocket money price points. We’ve seen this most blatantly with the rise of ‘fast fashion’ but ‘fast beauty’ is another big culprit. Alongside the fact that 8 million garments a year end up in a landfill, more than 120 billion units of packaging are produced every year by the global cosmetics industry, contributing to loss of 18 million acres of forest annually.

This new sustainable beauty movement is precisely what we at MONPURE want to be at the forefront of. Championing sustainable hair products, hopefully where we lead, other beauty brands will follow. But what qualifies as sustainable?

What is sustainable beauty?

As well as prioritising natural, sustainably sourced ingredients wherever possible, we are 100% vegan and cruelty free, no mean feat in the world of haircare where animal-derived ingredients are usually the norm. One of the ingredients we use that we’re particularly proud of is Silkgel - a pioneering new vegan alternative to regular silk peptides. It’s produced via a process of fermenting plant starch that has been clinically proven to not only repair fragile or damaged hair strands, but also protect the hair and scalp from pollution and bacteria.

We’re equally conscientious when it comes to our packaging, which features 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (which is also 100% recyclable). This is a type of plastic that has been reprocessed from other products that have been used and thrown away by consumers. A lot of the time, plastic objects that get discarded and recycled will get made into the same object (so an old shampoo bottle will be recycled to make a new one) thus closing the waste loop. This means that eventually, less plastic will end up in landfills, or in our oceans.

Plus, our shipping boxes and product packaging are printed using soy ink and our ecommerce orders use 100% biodegradable and compostable packing chips.

But MONPURE’s commitment to ‘slow beauty’ and sustainability doesn’t just stop at their own offices.

We have also handpicked our suppliers for having the highest ethical standards; many are involved in environmental and social initiatives themselves. For example, our warehouse in Wales has won a prestigious social enterprise award, while our manufacturer employs over 250 people with learning disabilities

We are also proud to announce that we’re a pending B-Corp, an incredibly important certification for a company to have. B Corps are legally bound to put the planet and people before profit margins. So as a consumer, you can rest assured that every step of the production process – from ingredients to suppliers, to packaging and shipping, has this in mind.
