From what they are, to their many benefits, here’s why you’ll find them inside our new Ceramide Complex Bond Repair range…

Have you experienced a damaging salon treatment or overdone the heat styling? Ceramides could well be the ingredient your haircare routine is missing to repair persistent damage. Whether your hair is dry, dull, coarse or in need of a little extra care, here’s everything you need to know about the benefits of ceramides…

What Are Ceramides?

Ceramides are lipid molecules and a type of fatty acid that are naturally present in the outer layer of both your skin and hair. When it comes to your hair, they lie within your hair’s cuticle on the outside layer of each hair shaft. They play a vital role in maintaining hair health by forming a protective barrier around each strand, which helps lock in moisture, shield against environmental damage and reinforce the hair's structural integrity.

How Can Ceramides Benefit Your Hair?

Ceramides offer a multitude of benefits when it comes to your hair’s overall health. By reinforcing the hair's cuticle, they help prevent damage from heat styling, chemical treatments and UV exposure. This reinforcement not only helps to strengthen the hair, but it also helps with boosting and retaining moisture to keep hair hydrated and less prone to both frizz and breakage. Ceramides also contribute to improved hair texture and increased shine by smoothing the cuticle so it lies flatter. The result? Softer, smoother and shinier hair. Lastly, ceramides also help to support long-term hair health by rebuilding the natural lipid layer of your hair which again helps to protect and promote stronger, more resilient hair.

Which Hair Types Can Benefit From Ceramides?

The great news is that ceramides can be beneficial for all hair types but they are particularly great for those with dry, frizzy, coarse, textured or damaged hair. This is because there are several factors (such as colouring, chemical treatments, heat styling, sun exposure and frequent washing) which can deplete the natural ceramides found in your hair. These can all lead to increased porosity and reduce your hair’s ability to retain moisture which can leave strands looking and feeling rough, dry, dull and fragile. Coarse or textured hair, which naturally loses moisture far quicker due to its structure, can really reap the hydrating rewards of ceramides as well as the enhanced manageability and reduced frizz.

What Makes Our Ceramides So Effective?

Like with every one of our products, we understand the science of your hair and scalp so use innovative formulas with active ingredients that deliver real results. When it comes to our latest innovation - our new Ceramide Complex Bond Repair, we use Ceramide NG. Without getting too technical, this is a specific type of ceramide which is both hair-identical and biomimetic. This means it closely resembles the ceramides found within your hair naturally which makes it more compatible and therefore more efficacious. It also means it can bind seamlessly to the cuticle layer and is able to fill in structural gaps to help smooth and prevent both breakage and dryness.

Ceramide NG is known to be more effective in repairing and strengthening hair when compared to other, non-hair-identical ceramides, such as Ceramide NP which is commonly found in other bond repair products. Ceramide NP is in fact better suited to the skin. By using Ceramide NG in our new formula, we ensure targeted, high-performance and visible results.

So Why Have You Not Heard Of Ceramides In Haircare?

Ceramides have long been a hero ingredient in skincare… strengthening your skin barrier and locking in moisture, yet their potential in haircare has been overlooked. Many brands focus on proteins and oils, missing the crucial role that ceramides can play in reinforcing your hair’s cuticles, preventing breakage and maintaining hydration. We’ve crafted a specialist solution that harnesses their power and impressive ability to fortify, protect and deeply nourish your hair.

How To Use Ceramides In Your Haircare Routine

Sold on the benefits and ready to rebuild and repair your hair? We thought so. Our New Ceramide Complex Bond Repair system is home to both a Shampoo and a Conditioner and has been cleverly created to suit all hair types. Gentle enough for daily use and powerful enough for you to see results after one use, here’s a little more about both and how best to use them:

Ceramide Complex Bond Repair Shampoo

Our Ceramide Shampoo gently cleanses whilst rebuilding broken bonds (both hydrogen and disulfide), boosting shine and reinforcing each strand from within. Alongside Ceramides, it’s also enriched with Amino Acids to strengthen and protect and Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (PCAs) to replenish essential hydration.

Ceramide Complex Bond Repair Conditioner

Our Ceramide Conditioner provides deep nourishment and protection, sealing the cuticle to reduce breakage, frizz and porosity. Again infused with both Ceramides and Amino Acids, it’s also packed with Argan Oil to enhance softness and shine.

For best results, use both together and follow this tried and tested routine:

1. Starting with wet hair, apply the Shampoo directly on to your scalp and roots.

2. Gently massage into your scalp to create a light lather before working through your mid-lengths and ends.

3. Rinse thoroughly. For an even deeper cleanser, try shampooing twice.

4. Apply the Conditioner directly onto the scalp and smooth down to your ends.

5. Leave for a few minutes to allow the ingredients to fully activate.

6. Rinse thoroughly.
