The MONPURE Guide to Met Gala Hairstyles
Fashion’s most anticipated red carpet event is upon us again, this time returning to its infamous spot on the fashion calendar: the first Monday in May.
The Met Gala is an annual fashion and charity event that is dedicated to raising funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. The Costume Institute was founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert in 1948, and by 1995, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour began to preside over the prestigious event, selecting its guest list and line-up of designers. Today, the Met Gala reigns supreme as one of the biggest fundraisers in New York City, and sets the stage for some of the most extravagant and culture-shifting fashion debuts of the year.
The theme of the exhibition in the Costume Institute sets the tone for the event, with the show-stopping attendees dressing accordingly. This year’s theme explores the history of American fashion, allowing the guests to embody the grandeur and excess of Gilded Age New York.
Last night’s theme, ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion’ or ‘Gilded Glamour’ showcased an array of jaw dropping hairstyles, voluminous 'dos and exquisite hair accessories that complemented the night’s indulgent, grandiose and glamorous dress code, paying homage to fashion from 1870 to 1890.

Kaia Gerber
Supermodel Kaia Gerber kicked off the evening’s red carpet with a partially-pinned, cascading mane of curls reminiscent of the Pre-Raphaelite paintings of the gilded age - an inspiration that is shared by MONPURE London.
Framing her face with a pair of diamante barrets, the look was the perfect marriage between softness and texture, drama and delicacy. With all that volume, it looks like Kaia is using MONPURE’s Follicle Boost Hair Density Serum, designed to amp up density and thickness with every use.
Hoyeon Jung
To honour late 1800s art, actress Hoyeon Jung stepped out with a waterfall of beautiful waves and a modern half-up twist. Jung’s hairstylist, Jenny Cho, expressed that the Gilded Age was a playful time when women had fun with their hair.
Jung’s flowing locks and layers of dimension can be achieved with strong, fortified locks. MONPURE’s Shampoo + Conditioner are the perfect foundations to ensure your hair is looking as nourished, strong and healthy as ever.
Laura Harrier
Actress Laura Harrier adorned a feminine, romantic and sleek finger-wave bob to complement her exquisite ensemble, referencing the corsetry of the Gilded Age.
The shoulder-grazing style is undeniably classic, while also feeling distinctly modern. Adding shine with the Hydrate and Soothe Scalp Serum and subtle waves with the Heal and Energise Jade Comb is the perfect combination to achieve Harrier’s gorgeous do.
Blake Lively
Co-host Blake Lively took the Met Gala by storm once again, wearing an intricate, bejewelled crown atop her golden locks, with a plait at the crown. To accompany her Versace gown, Blake’s hairstyle delivered a sophisticated, romantic and elegant effect.
Cascading golden locks like Blake’s can be achieved with the help of MONPURE’s Nourish and Stimulate Scalp Mask, which gives the hair the intense hit of nourishment it needs to grow and flourish to waist-level.
Kiki Layne
Actress Kiki Layne embodied the phrase ‘life imitating art’ at last night’s Met Gala red carpet. She sported an expertly-poofed, 70s-inspired afro to complement her beautiful floral gown and individual pink petals accenting her lids.
Layne’s blossoming locks can be achieved with MONPURE’s Clarifying Scalp Scrub, used to gently exfoliate the scalp, amp up hydration and cultivate the healthiest, fullest locks ever.
